This is a sexuality education programme for Year 7 & 8 children /young people attending Kura Kaupapa Māori. It is written entirely in te reo Māori.

E 8 ōna akoranga hei whakaakotanga mā ngā ākonga o ngā tau 7 me te 8 kei ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori e kuraina ana. Ko te pūhuruhurutanga me te tuakiri o te tamaiti ngā tino aronga o tēnei hōtaka, ā, kua waihangaia tēnei hōtaka kia hāngai ki te tirohanga a te Māori ki aua mea e rua. Hei whakawhanake i tēnei hōtaka, i mahi tahi mātou ko ētahi Kura Kaupapa Māori e rua, me kī, mei kore ko aua kura ka kore hoki ko tēnei hōtaka. I roto i ngā marama tekau mā waru kua taha ake, kua mahi tahi mātou o Te Whāriki Takapou me ētahi kaiako, whānau, tohunga, me ētahi pūkenga hei whakarite, whakaako, whakamātau hoki i te hōtaka e kīa nei ko ‘Te Ira Tangata’. [English]. Te Ira Tangata is an 8-session sexuality education programme designed for Years 7 and 8 students attending total immersion Kura Kaupapa Māori schools. The 8-session programme draws upon mātauranga Māori understandings of te pūhuruhurutanga and te tuakiri o te tamaiti. The programme was developed in partnership with two Kura Kaupapa Māori without whom this programme would not have been possible. Over an eighteen month period teachers, whānau, and Māori community experts worked alongside Te Whāriki Takapou to design, teach and evaluate the programme named ‘Te Ira Tangata’. The programme is available to download for free through our website. The programme includes electronic links to publicly-available resources that support programme delivery.
