This New Zealand-based resource explains mental illness and substance abuse that result from domestic violence. The resource, which includes a teaching guide (written and on DVD), is intended to enhance the skills and strategies of those assisting women with mental health problems as a result of domestic violence. It is aimed at service providers, including medical and legal professionals and those working with children. The DVD presents dramatised versions of women who are mentally unwell or suffering from drug and alcohol abuse trying to get help with domestic violence, and gives suggestions for a constructive agency response when working with these women. Information about the size and scope of the problem in New Zealand is also provided.
