It draws on an earlier edition produced by the Family Violence Unit of the Social Policy Agency and the Crime Prevention Unit, and the work of the Taskforce for Action on Violence Within Families. It is published by the Family and Community Services unit of the Ministry of Social Development to establish a process for engaging communities, key sectors and a range of diverse groups: • in promoting intolerance to violence in families/whānau and • raising awareness and understanding of the nature, causes and effects of various forms and types of violence in families/ whānau (Te Rito – New Zealand Family Violence Prevention Strategy Action Area 13: Public education/awareness). The Toolkit is an important part of the Taskforce’s Campaign for Action on Family Violence, a four year campaign aimed at changing the way New Zealanders think and act about family violence. The campaign is led by the Ministry of Social Development and the Families Commission. The toolkit includes a 56 page book, 40 fact sheets and an "Are you OK?" booklet.
