The Safety of Children in Care Unit is responsible for reviewing and reporting on all findings of abuse related to all children in care. Children in care are defined as being subject to a custodial order or legal agreement under the Oranga Tamariki Act. For this review all placement arrangements are considered including those where children remain at home and those where they live independently.
This report provides detailed information relating to:
— the overall number of individual children who have
experienced harm
— the number of individual children who have had more
than one finding of harm in the past twelve months;
— the number of individual children who have experienced
each type of harm;
— the number of findings of each type of harm
experienced;
— where the child was living when the harm occurred
— whether the harm occurred inside or outside the
placement;
— who is alleged to have caused the harm;
— the number of people who are alleged to have caused
more than one finding of harm in the period and
— the key characteristics of the people who are alleged to
have caused the harm.
This is the fourth annual report, replacing the quarterly reporting series, which first used the new measurement methodology (follow the link for the Measurement of harm report) to report on data for July - September 2018 (#6184). Record #8517
