Supervisors play a key role in ensuring that quality, ethical and accountable practice occurs for tamariki, rangatahi and whānau. Ensuring supervisors have the necessary time, skills and supports, including access to their own quality reflective supervision, is essential for them performing this function well, and in alignment with the profession’s commitment to social justice and human rights (ANZASW, 1999; SWRB, 2022). Supervision, coaching, mentoring, and professional development are therefore corner stones of not only quality practice, but staff retention, workplace satisfaction and wellbeing (Rankine, 2019; Tsui, 2017).
